The low coffee table has been placed in front of a sofa under the north-facing windows. The rocking chair is beside the heater and bookcase, creating a cosy reading area. When a front loading washing machine was purchased, it enabled a bench with storage cupboards to be installed, with white subway tiles to complete the make-over. All materials were purchased at Bunnings and the project completed as DIY. Existing plumbing remained in place which simplified the project. A vase collection lines the window sill, with a basket of cleaning products easily accessible on the bench, together with clothes basket. The overall effect is created by simply using what is to hand. The lower cabinet doors were removed and painted with an enamel paint suitable for painting on laminate. The plastic handles were replaced with stainless steel handles that provided an instant update. The doors were removed from the upper cabinets and left as open shelving, utilising the existing white laminate of the inner cabinet shelving. Glasses, cups and mugs were attractively displayed on the open shelving, along with recipe books. Consisting of three bedrooms, an open-plan kitchen, dining and family room, a formal lounge, bathroom and laundry, the house had a light neutral palette of Dulux Hog Bristle (half strength) for the walls and Antique White USA for the trim. Grey/blue carpet and tiles and new cream roller blinds completed the light and airy feel throughout the home. The owner had numerous original paintings and photos, books and china collections which needed careful display and arranging.
